Living Kidney Donor Needed

Hello,

My name is Bob. I am looking for a kidney donor. I am 49 years old and a father of 3.
I have been a paramedic for 25 years and a registered nurse for the last 10. I worked in a Covid ICU and took care of the most critical patients. During this I contracted Covid and it was determined that is what likely damaged my kidneys.

I have been out of work for the last 2 years because of my health. This has put a significant strain on my family both financially, physically and emotionally. I am unable to travel or hunt and fish as I was once able to do.

My goal is to get a kidney transplant and re-enter the workforce as a nurse where I can continue my lifetime career of helping people. I don’t ask this lightly. My family and closest friends have been tested and have been all disqualified for one reason or another. I’m the kind of guy that wouldn’t ask anyone for lunch money, so I feel very awkward asking for a vital organ from family and friends let alone strangers.

There are currently 120,000 people waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant in the U.S. Of these, 100,000 await kidney transplants.

The median wait time for a kidney transplant is 3-5 years and can vary depending on health, compatibility, and where you live.

In 2014, 17,107 kidney transplants took place in the U.S. Of these, 11,570 came from deceased donors and 5,537 came from living donors.

Every 14 minutes someone is added to the kidney transplant waitlist.

A kidney from a living donor lasts longer and begins functioning more quickly than a kidney from a deceased donor.

In 1995, kidney donation became minimally invasive with a procedure called laparoscopic nephrectomy, which only requires four small incisions. Hospital stay is typically only 3 days after this operation.

Last year, over 700 living donor kidney transplants occurred using Kidney Paired Donation.
