Living Kidney Donor Needed

Hello,

My name is Demetrius Lindsay, and today I am asking for help in a way I never imagined I would. Unfortunately, kidney disease has changed many parts of my life. Things that once came naturally now require more energy than I often have. Activities I love have become more difficult, and the life I have worked hard to build is being affected every day.

Even with these challenges, I remain hopeful. I have always been someone who enjoys staying busy, living life, and appreciating the moments that make life meaningful. Whether it is taking my motorcycle out for a long ride, keeping my lawn looking its best, bowling with family and friends, trying a new restaurant, visiting a new place, or simply spending time with the people I love, I have always found joy in the little things. I also take pride in helping others. As a Training Coordinator, I enjoy teaching, supporting, and encouraging people as they learn, grow, and succeed. Being able to make a positive impact in the lives of others has always meant a great deal to me.

My hope is simple: to regain my health, continue watching my three children become successful adults, enjoy long motorcycle rides, keep my lawn the envy of the neighborhood, discover new places and restaurants, and make lasting memories with the people I love. Receiving a living donor kidney transplant would give me the opportunity to regain my health, spend more quality time with my loved ones, continue doing the things I enjoy, and return to living life more fully. One act of kindness could change my life forever.

I am currently in need of a living kidney donor. I understand that becoming a donor is a major and deeply personal decision. I am incredibly grateful to anyone willing to learn more about the process. There are currently 120,000 people waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant in the U.S. Of these, 100,000 await kidney transplants.

The median wait time for a kidney transplant is 3-5 years and can vary depending on health, compatibility, and where you live.

In 2014, 17,107 kidney transplants took place in the U.S. Of these, 11,570 came from deceased donors and 5,537 came from living donors.

Every 14 minutes someone is added to the kidney transplant waitlist.

A kidney from a living donor lasts longer and begins functioning more quickly than a kidney from a deceased donor.

In 1995, kidney donation became minimally invasive with a procedure called laparoscopic nephrectomy, which only requires four small incisions. Hospital stay is typically only 3 days after this operation.

Not blood type compatible with your recipient to be a living donor? Kidney Paired Donation (the “kidney swap” program) enables incompatible candidates with a living donor to receive a kidney from a compatible donor.

Last year, over 700 living donor kidney transplants occurred using Kidney Paired Donation.
