Greetings!
My name is Shari Lee Tellis-Wafer, and I am a 64-year-old Widow, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Chronic kidney disease is a problem that I have been dealing with for over 20 years. Unfortunately, over time my kidney disease has continued to progress to the extent that I am in dire need of a kidney transplant. The effects and treatments required to combat it have been a constant stress on my mind, body, and soul. My family have taken measures to be a donor, but unfortunately no one has been determined a match for me.
Since 2024, I’ve been undergoing Peritoneal Dialysis, I have frequent doctor visits and have endured various procedures. My declining health has taken a toll on my quality of life. My low kidney function creates many challenges. It is difficult to eat with the metallic taste side effect and low appetite. I am often exhausted, and it is hard to do the things that previously brought me joy; walking, bike riding, yard work, artwork, traveling, or simply just visiting with loved ones. Crafting brings me joy and helps to generate a little extra income, however, now that is difficult as well. Although physically I have battled extensive weight loss and muscle tone, my doctors continue to applaud my self-motivation and my overall strength. They have declared that I am healthy enough to meet all the criteria for being a successful transplant recipient and highly recommend a living donor.
I look forward to the day that I can get my normal life back. It would be a blessing to be able to spend more time outdoors, visit local markets, swim with my grandkids, and enjoy life without the constant concerns for my health. It’s the simple things that I will appreciate most after my transplant, like having the strength to take a full warm bath and having the energy to apply oils to my body and do my own hair.
I am on the waiting list for a kidney, however that can often take years to get a match. Therefore, to obtain a better chance of gaining a better quality of life, I am hoping to find a living kidney donor! A living donor transplant would mean so much to me because it’s like a symbolic rebirth and will give me a second chance at life. I would forever cherish the shared journey, and the magnitude of such a selfless gift. I would be grateful if you could help me find a match by getting tested or sharing this information with your own network of friends, family and community.
With heartfelt thanks,
Shari Lee Tellis-Wafer
