LIVING Liver DONOR NEEDED

If you can’t save my life…you may be able to save someone else’s life by becoming an organ donor. I can’t think of a greater gift.

Update: Liver Donor Found by sharing my story on Facebook!
Hi my name is Mary Ann Carroll. I am married with two children.

My journey to needing a liver has been complicated. I was never much of a drinker so giving up alcohol was easy when I was diagnosed with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. I started taking trulicity for my Diabetes and in January of 2022 I ended up in the ER with acute pancreatitis. It seems everything that could go wrong did. About a week later they did an ERCP and decided to take out my gallbladder. My gallbladder was completely dead. I developed a bile leak from the surgery, and was in and out of the hospital for about two months out of three. They performed multiple ERCP’s inserting stents. The first one moved, the next two got clogged the fourth one was metal and worked. The worst part was the nausea, lack of energy, having a bile bag, losing my hair and the incessant itching. It took awhile but the nausea isn’t as frequent and the itching is throughout my body but it’s not as bad as it was. Now my biggest battle is the lack of energy and some cognitive issues ( I went to see the surgeon wearing a black and a brown boot both for the right foot….) throughout my hospital stay the Drs thought I had Secondary Sclerosing Cholangitis, but when I met with my Liver Dr, Dr. Hamilton he didn’t think I had it because people don’t get better they either stay the same or get worse. I did get better and was able to return to work FT. In July of 2023 he confirmed that I did have SSC. When I started to look like a yellow highlighter another attempt was made to put in a stent but by this time my ducts were so bad with strictures they couldn’t put one in. They tried another procedure going though my liver with a balloon and that didn’t work. They looked into attaching my liver directly to my intestine but due to the condition of my ducts this is not an option. My only hope is either a living donor or deceased donor. Right now I’m low on the list for the deceased donor list. I’m hoping to find a living donor so I can have the transplant sooner rather than waiting until I get sicker and end up higher on the list. If I get too sick I may not qualify for a liver. I don’t have family that has A blood type (can be positive or negative) so I would need either an altruistic donor or deceased donor.

I’m hoping to not only getting my life back, but to end up with a better life ahead. Being around for when my kids get married and have children, and be able to enjoy time with my husband when he retires. Getting back to either working or volunteering.

I am actively looking for a living Donor my blood type is A- but Donors can be A+. Please feel free to share my story and even if you don’t want to be a living donor, you could still save a life of someone like me by choosing to be an organ donor.

New Update! I have received the gift of life from Anjie Lynchard. When Phil was in middle school his first best friend was Jared. Through the Lynchard’s strong faith in God, Anjie felt Jared wanted her to do this for Phillips mom. I feel so blessed and renewed and I am looking forward to my life ahead!
