Hey, my name is Courtney I am 29 years old and I am currently on dialysis for the third time in my life. I was first diagnosed with my kidney disease when I was 11 and went on dialysis for the first time when I was 14. So being sick is all I really know but I try to not let it control my life. I always see the positive side of things and I'm grateful for everything.
I was diagnosed with kidney failure when I was 14. Three times a week I have to wake up at 5am to go to dialysis. After dialysis on a good day I will be a little tired but most of the time it leaves me lightheaded and exhausted. I constantly have to back out on plans due to being drained from dialysis. I also have a weak immune system because of my disease so I frequently end up in the hospital. at least I'm on a first name basis with all of the staff. I have missed so many holidays and celebrations from this. a kidney will give me a chance at a normal life.
With my prior transplant the best thing was waking up and actually feeling healthy. Before the transplant I always thought that I felt fine but when you wake up with a brand new kidney its such an amazing feeling to actually feel healthy. You almost forget about the huge incision on your stomach haha. A transplant would give me a new lease on life. You would be saving my life. A transplant would allow me to be there for everything and not miss out on everything that I would from being on dialysis or in the hospital. I would be able to go on trips with my family and finally be able to have a surprise get away. I don't know if you are fully aware of what dialysis is but I can't miss a single treatment or I will end up in the hospital or worse. So without a kidney going to dialysis is my life. Nothing else can come before it. I want to be able to have
Donating a kidney is a big thing to do and hopefully an amazing person will read my story and change my life. Even if you're not a match or can't donate yourself please help by sharing my story and helping me find my match!
