Living Kidney Donor Needed

Hello,

My name is Thelma, and I am hoping to find a living kidney donor. I have had kidney disease for nearly 6 years now. Unfortunately, over time my kidney disease has continued to progress to the extent that I will need a kidney transplant. I am getting close to needing dialysis, which I am hoping to avoid.

My kidney's started to fail after my liver transplant that I received 11 years ago. The medication that I needed to take affected my kidneys. My liver is still functioning great and will for many more years. I have adult children and many grandchildren. I also have 7 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. God has been good to me. I would love to get a kidney transplant so I can watch my grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up. I'm close with my family and I love them all dearly.

A living donor transplant would mean so much to me because I could spend quality time with my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren without constant concerns for my health. It would be a blessing to be able to travel and go camping with my family.

I'm on the waiting list for a kidney, however that can often take years to get a match. I am hoping to get a living donor to improve my quality of life. I would be eternally grateful if you could help me find a match by getting tested or sharing this information with your own network of friends, family and community.

There are currently 120,000 people waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant in the U.S. Of these, 100,000 await kidney transplants.

The median wait time for a kidney transplant is 3-5 years and can vary depending on health, compatibility, and where you live.

In 2014, 17,107 kidney transplants took place in the U.S. Of these, 11,570 came from deceased donors and 5,537 came from living donors.

A kidney from a living donor lasts longer and begins functioning more quickly than a kidney from a deceased donor.

In 1995, kidney donation became minimally invasive with a procedure called laparoscopic nephrectomy, which only requires four small incisions. Hospital stay is typically only 3 days after this operation.
